Everyone knows what its like to loose a loved one, but the town of Jefferson had no idea how hard Emily had taken death until they unraveled her deep, dark secret. People knew what it must have been like to be Emily. They knew the type of deportment she had lived and felt bad for the way her father had kept her all cooped up and sheltered away from any humankind. They also knew her father had felt that no man was good enough for her. The people of Jefferson felt that the family thought they were better then everyone else and showed no sort of insanity. When her father died, people realized the toll it had taken on Emily. They were somewhat relieved to know he was gone, and she too would discover what it was like to be a ?pauper.? They also knew they could pity her and the woman even came to her house to solace her. They found it interesting when they saw no sense of grief amongst her face, and that she acted like she had no idea of the death of her father. People of Jefferson still didn?t think she was crazy, they had moreover figured it was all she had to do. They women knew that a man sure didn?t know how to clean a house so they knew he was the reason for the horrible smells. The scent of her house was gruesome, and left people nauseous. Unfortunately, no one had the guts to let her know that she had basically had an odor, which surrounded her property. So the townspeople had squeezed lemon juice around her yard to relieve the horrid smell. When Miss Emil... ...dering emotions which superpower have driven Emily to her insanity. Although it is hard, I have not even thought of the perverted things that she had done to Mr. Barron, nor have I thought that an individual was capab le of sex act themselves that someone isn?t dead and argue with people and say I wouldn?t give up their body. Emily did go through a lot in her lifetime. It is hard to loose someone close to you, and especially if that is all you truly have. I feel that all Emily wanted was to feel loved, and to have someone in her life that made her feel special and feel like she was somebody. She was lonely, and she needed someone to love her and someone for her to love. She sought attention which she rarely received as a child. She demonstrates a quite luminous type of psychosis that was affected and hindered from her father?s death and corrupt and shelter childhood.

Nano Technology in Civil Engineering Essay

Na nonechnology is oneness of the most active research areas that encompass a number of disciplines including civil unionizeing and whirl materials. Nano formulaTraditionally, nano engine room has been concerned with developments in the fields of littleelectronics, medicine and materials sciences. However, the potential for application of many of the developments in the nanotechnology field in the area of grammatical construction engineering is growing. In this topic a broad overview of the potential application of various nanotechnology developments in the construction engineering field is discussed, and the potential for further basic research that may backsheesh to improved systems is evaluated.NonotechnologyNanotechnology is a field that is dominated by developments in basic physics and chemistry research, where phenomena on atomic and molecular level are utilise to provide materials and structures that perform tasks that are not possible using the materials in their typ ical macroscopic form. Theevolution of technology and instrumentation as well as its related scientific areas such as physics and chemistry are making the research on nanotechnology aggressive and evolutional. Not surprisingly, it is observed that expenditure on nanotechnology research is significant. However, the research is mainly moving forward motivated by immediate profitable return generated by high value commercial products .It has been realised by study, nanotechnology in construction ranked 8 of 10 applications that most likely eat impact in the developing world. Nanotechnology covers the design, construction and utilization of in operation(p) structures with at least one characteristic dimension measured in nanometers. The field of nanotechnology has developed in major leaps during the past 10 years. These developments were mainly control by factors such as dedicated initiatives in the field (e.g. the National Nanotechnology Initiative) ,APPLICATION OF NANOTECHNOLOGY I NCONSTRUCTIONNanotechnology can be recitationd for design and construction processes in many areas since nanotechnology generated products have many unique characteristics. These include products that are for Lighter structure Stronger structural composites e.g. for bridges etc Low maintenance coating improving pipe joining materials and techniques Better properties of cementitious materials Reducing the thermal transfer rate of fire retardant and insulation Increasing the sound absorption of acoustical absorber Increasing the reflectivity of glass. There are large numbers of applications of nanotechnology in construction engineering/industry. Some of these applications are examined in detail below. coverConcrete is one of the most common and widely used construction materials. The rapid development of new experimental techniques makes it possible to study the properties of cementitious materials at micro/nano-scale. Research has been conducted to study the hydration proces s, alkali-silicate reply (ASR), and fly ash reactivity using nanotechnology. The better understandingof the structure and behavior of concrete at micro/nano-scale could process to improve concrete properties and prevent the illness, such as ASR. Addition of nanoscale materials into cement could improve its performance. In , Li (2004) found that nano-SiO2 could significantly increase the compressive for concrete, containing large playscript fly ash, at early age and improve pore size distribution by filling the pores between large fly ash and cement particles at nanoscale. The dispersion/slurry of amorphous nanosilica is used to improve segregation foeman for self-compacting concrete. It has also been reported that adding small amount of carbon nanotube (1%) by fish could increase both compressive and flexural strength . Cracking is a major concern for many structures. When the microcapsules are broken by a head, the healing agent is released into the crack and contact with the catalyst. The polymerization happens and bond the crack faces. The selfhealing polymer could be especially applicable to fix the microcracking in bridge piers and columns. But it requires costly epoxy injection.Structural Compositesblade is a major construction material. Its properties, such as strength, corrosion resistance, and weld superpower, are very important for the design and construction. FHWA together with American Iron and leaf blade Institute and the U.S. Navy started to develop new, low carbon, high-performance steel (HPS) for bridges in 1992.Nano with concreteThe new steel was developed with higher corrosion-resistance and weld ability by incorporating copper nanoparticles from at the steel grain boundaries. Sandvik NanoflexTM is new blameless steel with ultra-high strength, good formability, and a good surface finish developed by Sandvik Nanoflex Materials Technology. Due to its high performance, Sandvik NanoflexTM is suitable for application which requires lightwe ight and rigid designs. Its good corrosion and wear resistance can keep life-cycle costs low. Attractive or wear resistant surfaces can be achieved by various treatments (Sandvik Nanoflex Materials Technology). MMFX2 is nanostructure-modified steel, produced by MMFX Steel Corp.Wireless sensors based on nanotechnology are used to alert engineers Compared with the received steel, it has a fundamentally different microstructure- alaminated lath structure resembling plywood. This unique structure provides MMFX2 steel with amazing strength (three times stronger), ductility, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Due to high cost, the stainless steel reinforcement in concrete structure is limited in high risk environments. The MMFX2 steel could be an alternative because it has the similar corrosion resistance to that of stainless steel, but at a much lower cost (MMFX Steel Corp.).Nano coatingsCoatingThe coatings incorporating certain nanoparticles or nanolayers have been developed for cert ain purpose. It is one of the major applications of nanotechnology in construction. For example, TiO2 is used to coat glazing because of its sterilizing and anti fouling properties. The TiO2 will break down and disintegrate organic dirt through powerful catalytic reaction . Furthermore, it is hydrophilic, which allow the water to spread evenly over the surface and wash away dirt previously broken down. Other special coatings also have been developed, such as anti-fraffiti, thermal control, energy sawing, and anti-reflection coating.NanosensorsNano and microelectrical mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors have been developed and used in construction to superintending device and/or control the environment spring and the materials/structure performance. One advantage of these sensors is their dimension (10-9m to 10-5m).Nano sensorsThese sensors could be embedded into the structure during the construction process. Smart aggregate, a low cost Piezoceramic-based multi-functional device has been applied to monitor early age concrete properties such as moisture, temperature, relative humidity and early age strength development. The sensors can also be used to monitor concrete corrosion and cracking. The smart aggregate can also be used for structure health monitoring. The disclosed system can monitor infixed stresses, cracks and separate physicalforces in the structures during the structures life. It is capable of providing an early indication of the health of the structure before a failure of the structure can occur.FUTURE gainsay AND DIRECTIONAs with most developing technologies, a major number of challenges hold up during the initiation of the application of the technology into reality. It is important to be realistic and station and plan for the limitations and challenges inherent in this process. In this section a short summary of selected challenges and limitations affecting application of nanotechnology in construction engineering are provided. The side by side(p) main challenges and limitations can be defined Fabrication, Health, Environment and CostFabricationCurrent efforts in the field of nanotechnology are focused on the fabrication, characterization and use of these materials on a nanoscale domain. This die hards to most of the development work focusing on very small quantities of material that is typically far removed from the type of quantities inevitable for typical construction infrastructure. One of the potential solutions to this is to focus on the nano materials to act as catalyser, thereby reducing the amount of nano material required substantially.Another outdoor stage is that for many applications, the material does not necessarily have to be used on a nano scale to obtain a major improvement in benefits. This would be the case with reduction of the dimensions of cement, where a substantial improvement in strength can already be obtained through the large scale mill around of the cement to a finer form than the tr aditional form. Although the cement may not be purely a nano material as yet, the benefits obtained would already be substantial.Nano in roadsHealthNanotechnology based construction products might be harmful to health. For example, the nanotubes 14 might cause a lung problem to construction workers. In other words, it creates an environmental challenge to the construction industry as well.EnvironmentThe effect of various nonmaterials on the intrinsic environment is hotly debated in nanotechnology and environmental research. confused ongoing investigations focus on the uncertainty regarding the potential effects of materials that exist on the nanoscale with properties that are different than when using the material on a micro or macro scale. Some work in this regard shows that the potential effects may be minimal. As constructed infrastructure are provided in the natural environment, all materials used in the construction and maintenance of these facilities need to be compatible to the natural environment and their effects on the natural environment should not be negative.Typical potential problems in this regard include leaching of materials into groundwater, release of materials into airways through the generation of dust and exposure to potentially harmful materials during construction and maintenance operations. The nanotechnology becomes a double-edge sword to the construction industry. More research and practice efforts are needed with smart design and planning, construction projects can be do sustainable and therefore save energy, reduce resource usage, and avoid damages to environment.CostThe costs of most nanotechnology materials and equipment are relatively high. This is due to the novelty of the technology and the complexity of the equipment used for preparation and characterization of the materialsNano Technology in Transportation EngineeringHowever, costs have been shown to decrease over time and the expectations are that, as manufacturing techn ologies improve, these costs may further decrease. Whether the expected decreases will render the materials as run-of-the-mill construction engineering materials will have to be seen, and depends largely on the benefits rendered through the application of these materials. Current opinion is that in special cases, the materials will enable unique solutions to complicated problems that cause them to be cost effective, which will lead to large-scale application of these specific technologies. In other cases the traditional methods for treating the problem may still remain the most cost effective. It is the challenge to theconstruction engineer to solve real world transportation infrastructure problems and provide a facility to the general public at a reasonable cost.CONCLUSIONSNanotechnology is a quickly expanding area of research where novel properties of materials manufactured on the nanoscale can be utilized for the benefit of construction infrastructure A number of promising devel opments exist that can potentially change the service life and life-cycle cost of construction infrastructure. Focused research into the timeous and directed research into nanotechnology for construction infrastructure should be act to ensure that the potential benefits of this technology can be obtained to provide longer life and more economical transport infrastructureREFERENCESwww.asme.org/nanowebcastwww.aggregateresearch.comwww.nanoforum.orgwww.gogle.com

The Artist as a Critic

Oscar Wilders The Artist as Critic revolves around a repugn Gilbert and Ernest discuss over cheat criticism and analysis. Ernest argues that in the best days of graphics there we no trick critics. (Wilder 346). Whereas Gilbert reasons that it (art criticism) treats the work of art simply as a starting-point for a new creation (Wilder 367). Sadly, Ernests blatant ignorance is unable to comprehend that without art criticism, there would be no art to authentically value.Wildes quote means that in order to hold art of all fields at a high prestige, we need critical structure and acquaintance of historical/ governmental context to support art in order to admire the pure beauty within its relative expertise. To sleep together the principles of the highest art is to know the principles of the arts (Wilder 354). Therefore, the cruciality of art criticism responds to the interpretation of meaning and focus on the current culture and time period, overall helping viewers observe and ana lyze artworks to gain further knowledge and respect for such creations. Without the critical faculty, there is no artistic creation at all, worthy of name and no one who does not possess this critical faculty can create anything at all in art. (Wilder 355) Gilbert sais this to Ernest arguing over the use of art criticism from the Greeks. Gilbert means that without a basic structure of skills and fundamental elements relevant to the expertise, there is no precision of craft. What makes fine art beautiful, worth earshot and compelling is highly contingent upon the mastery of key skills and artistic components. If an opera singer didnt know how to differentiate their use of breath during lyric or coloratura soprano repertoire, they would not be able to get through any piece or art song. Instead, they would sound breathy and tone little throughout the phrases, who wants to hear that? Likewise, if a generator has no sense of plot flow, character development, or interesting themes withi n a story, there is no point in wasting your time study through a painful piece of literature. All art forms are developed under a certain skill which require dedicated competence and utilize faculty. Art critics simply keep artists in check by maintaining a certain level expectation to reach for and continue to advance artistic creations. detrimental art criticism does not always apply to the lack of faculty skills. In Amiri Barakas meter Somebody Blew Up America, released a year after the day of remembrance of 9/11, he executed a highly controversial piece of writing that was a accused of racism and hatred against Jews, Israelis, and American leaders. The bigoted universal treated his work as a literal translation of his opinions and beliefs, when his intentions were to create an ultimate allegoric song to open the eyes of our field that was unaware of political schemes and inhumane manipulation of our government that was thought to have led to the events of 9/11. Despite suc h a dispute perhaps liable from governmental lead of action, 9/11 was still a fresh wound upon our country that was no where close to recovery due to such loss and tragic deaths.Barakas poem hit too close to home at the time, people did not want to listen to his radical accusations and unpatriotic rambling about our country getting bombed. The publics inability to see the poem for what it really is, a high rhetorical statement expressing the writers ideological investments, signifies a profound lack of understanding of the nature of poetical arta lack which can be explained by any number of cultural, historical, and institutional factors. (Gwiazda 16) Barakas Somebody Blew Up America was a powerful poem that should be praised for its thunderous diction and expertise of faculty. Instead he was removed from the national position as the Poet Laureate of New Jersey because the people of country could not comprehend such controversial context within his poem, they took his words too l iterally instead of a representation of political activist art. The immaculate multitude of these questions might indeed produce in the reader the suspicion of a global conspiracy of oppressors against oppressed, privileged against unprivileged, have against have-nots.Through its relentless accumulation of imperialistic wrongs Somebody Blew up America achieves a compelling rhetorical effect. (Gwiazda 10) Such an example of Barakas failure of a poem provides the essential requirement to utilize analytical techniques within political and cultural contexts to ensure further comprehension and appreciation of a valid work of art. Reading the poems in class by Chrystos instilled an authoritative awareness I e about how the power of poetry can reach people and activate mindsets through a strategic voice of force. As graphic as her poems are, they do not serve as aesthetic platforms that deliver you to your happy place, her work of art leaves a prominent message that is tri aloneary to wards delivering a strong testimony about her cultural and spiritual hardships. She opens the mind of the reader and draws a raw picture of her experiences and torments as a native in this intolerant country we call America.Such art that tears at the soul and depicts unpleasant imagery is a powerful form of activist art by bringing awareness to the people about violence and inequities upon Natives, often been covered up by white supremacist governmental officials. Art does not have to be beautiful to convey an influential message, in fact, art in its most vulnerable and raw form reaches the audience by leaving an relevant picture emotional, effectively capturing a huge amount of attention. The ethical effect of art, its importance to culture, and its place in the formation of character, had been done once for all by Plato but here we have art treated, not from moral, but from the purely aesthetic point of view. (Wilder 352) Understanding the elements that create such dramatic pie ces of art enable the art critic to take in historical and political contexts to further establish an opinionated analysis of the work.Unlike Barakas hostile reviews of Somebody Blew Up America, Chrystos poems were well received, less radical and primarily focused on revolving themes of oppression and discrimination. In conclusion, critical faculty and fundamental elements are essential to analyzing a work of art. The world require art criticism in order to truly value a mastery of skills relevant to the field. With the foundation of art criticism we can further the creations of great art to aspire to and behold its greatness.

How Do Octavio Paz and Albert Camus Convey Their Respective Views on Death

How do Octavio Paz and Albert Camus convey their respective views on stopping point? World Literature 1 22/08/2010 Many aspects of death are pondered and questioned throughout Octavio Pazs poems, the 2 I have chosen to particularly focus on are Plain and Near Cape Comorin. Albert Camus has also considered the aspect of death within his novel, The outsider. The title, The Outsider is vital to the text, as it reflects many aspects of the authors life. David Simpson explained that Camus lived most of his life in discordant groups and communities without re all(prenominal)y being of them (iii). This also shows sympatheticities amidst Camus and the protagonist, Meursault, as throughout The Outsider, Meursault seems to neutralise all his emotions allowing himself to watch his own life as an outsider. However, Camus was born as and brought up to be an outsider, whereas Meursault assumes his detached, individualised life himself. Both Camus and his protagonist share an existential phil osopher view on death, this is evident in the novel The Outsider. Whereas Paz shows a more positive stance on death. Both Paz and Camus convey the notion that death is an inevitable crop of life, however they go about this in very different ways. While Camus takes a negative view of death, hauntingly reflected in his protagonists amoral, passionless attitude towards his death sentence, Paz juxtaposes images of death and decay, with that of beauty, and nature. Plain is saturated with sexual imagery, however, it is displayed to the reader in a grotesque manner, suggesting that life shares an intrinsic link with death.Visceral imagery such as that of decapitated phalluses and a gushing open wound would normally point towards mortality, but the presence of sexual imagery contrasts this notion as, sexual intercourse is representative of the fruition of life. Camus presents a similar concept in The Outsider as he articulates the idea that the only certain thing in life is the inevitabili ty of death, and, because all humans exit eventually meet death, all lives are all equally meaningless. This theory manifests itself in Meursaults nonchalant response to his own impending death. Whereas during his trial Meursault passively detect the judgements levelled against him, in prison he begins to ponder the fact of his inevitable death. He begins to see his life as having a past, present, and future, and concludes that there is no difference mingled with dying soon by execution and dying decades later of natural causes. This revelation comes about when Meursault experiences a sense of liberation in his jail cell. His horny outburst towards the chaplain, hurling insults at him (124), contrasts hugely against the blunt, nonchalant opening sentence Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I cant be sure (11). While awaiting his execution, Meursault takes the last-place step in the development of his consciousness. This capacity for self-analysis is a new development for Meurs ault, and it contrasts greatly with his level of self-awareness earlier in the novel. This is significant, as it catalyses his self enlightenment, enhancing his mindset into that of an existentialist.Meursaults approach to death, and in fact his entire belief structure points to that of an individual with an amoral stance on life. He is neither moral or immoral, he scarcely does not make the distinction between good and bad in his own mind. His encounter with the chaplain presents the reader with a clear binary opposite differentiating between a rational, Christian system of belief and that of Meursault who refuses to succumb to Christianity. Meursault concludes that the universe is, like him, totally indifferent to human life.He decides that peoples lives have no heroical meaning or importance, and that their actions, their comings and goings, have no effect on the world. This realisation is the culmination of all the events of the novel. When Meursault accepts the benign indiffe rence of the universe, (127) he finds peace with himself and with the society near him, and his development as a character is complete. Paz asks similar philosophical questions in Near Cape Comorin using the first person to rhetorically inquire Am I a lost soul or a wandering body? In the same poem he uses nature to convey various elements of religion, as it is universally known that people look for answers in their faiths. Hinduism is alluded to, with references to a troupe of begging monkeys possibly a nod to the Hindu deity hanuman. This is juxtaposed with references to Christianity such as the cobra from Genesis a binary representation of western versus eastern religion. Nature is also utilize to depict death in Plain when Paz talks of the buzzing of the flies connoting decay. The theme of insects continues as he mentions a statue of a saint painted blue and pink. From his left eye streaming grey fly insects that fall turned to dust. This again, savours of death and decay crea ting in the readers mind, the image of a rotting corpse. This is starkly juxtaposed with the cheery colours of the saint which could themselves represent the gender class clothes given to newborn babies. Lastly, death itself is evoked with the personification by Paz, of a a bird dressed in black. This is a regularly used symbol of death, and the notion that the bird flies in circles points to the cyclical nature of life and death. This bird, however, may also be used to portray hope as it rests on the only living tree showing hope in the preservation and search of life. This hope is also present in The Outsider because once Meursault dismisses his comprehend difference between execution and natural death, he must deal with the concept of hope. entrust only tortures him, because it creates the false illusion that he can change the fact of his death. The leap of hope he feels at the idea of having another twenty years of life prevents him from making the most of his final days or hou rs. Hope disturbs his calm and understanding, and prevents him from fully coming to grips with his situation. By using imageries of religion, nature and sex, Paz creates a relatively positive outlook on death, in stark opposition to Camus melodramatic, emotionless stance on death.Through Meursaults actions, Camus implicitly challenges societys accepted moral obligations, which state that one should grieve over death, especially for a loved one or family member. Because Meursault does not grieve, society classes him as an outsider, a possible threat, a man with a criminal mentality (105) and stands no place within a community (108). Meursaults mindset and possibly that of Camus is transferred to his views on death views which fit into an existentialist way of thinking.Paz also portrays death as an inevitable product of life nd existence, as exemplified by the sinister bird, dressed in black, flying in monotonous circles, landing on the only living tree presumably as a portent of its certain death. Partnership Essay

Q-1Define compact and explain the features of union? Ans. A alliance is the relationship existing between two or much persons who join to carry on a trade or business. Each person contributes money, property, labor or skill, and expects to share in the lettuces and losses of the business. A spouseship must file an annual education return to report the income, deductions, gains, losses, etc., from its operations, but it does not pay income tax. Instead, it passes through any(prenominal) profits or losses to its partners. Each partner includes his or her share of the confederacys income or loss on his or her tax return. Partners are not employees and should not be issued a Form W-2. The partnership must cede copies of Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) to the partners by the date Form 1065 is required to be filed, including extensions. If you are a partnership or a partner (individual) in a partnership, use the in institution in the charts below to help you construe some of the form s that you may be required to file. a)The main features of partnership are given below1.Agreementthither must be agreement between the parties concerned. This is the most important characteristics of partnership. Without agreement partnership layaboutnot be formed. No agreement no partnership. that only competent persons are entitled to view as a contract. in that location are some provisions contained in the partnership agreement. These are determined clearly before the counterbalance of business. But it differs from business to business. This documents may be write or oral. But it must be written so that disputes may be settled according to the provisions of agreement.2.Number of PartnershipThere should be more(prenominal) than one person to form a partnership. But in that location is restriction for the maximum human action of partners. In case of ordinary business, the partners must not exceed 20 and in case of banking must not exceed 10 (before nationalization).3.Busin essThe object of the formation of partnership is to carryon any type of business. It may be manufacturing or merchandise type small or large scale business. But it should not be punishable business in the landed estate concerned.4.Profit motiveThe basic motive of the formation of partnership is to earn profit. This profit is distributed among the partners according to agreed proportion. If there is loss it will be sustained by all partners overleap the minor.5.Conduct of BusinessThe business of partnership is conducated by all the partners or any or them acting for all. But each partner is allowed to participate in the management by law.6.EntityIt has no separate entity apart from its members. It is not independent of the partners. Law has not granted it any legal entity.7.Unlimited liabilityThis is the prominent feature of partnership that the liability of each partner is not limited to the amount invested but his private property is in like manner liable to pay the business ob ligations.8.InvestmentEach partner contributes his share in the capital according to the agreement. well-nigh persons become partners without investing any capital to the business. But they devote their time, energy and ability to their business or else of capital and receive profit.9.Transferability of shareThere is restriction to transfer the share from one partner to an antitheticwise(prenominal) person without the consent of existing partners. In the position of an agent he can make contract with another person or parties on behalf of his concerned trusty.11.Mutual ConfidenceThe business of the partnership cannot be conducted fortunately without the element of mutual confidence and cooperation of partners. So the members must have trust and confidence in each other.1 2.Free OperationThere are no strict rules and regulations to control the partnership activities in our country i.e. no restriction for the audit of accounts, submission of various reports and other copies to any government authority. So this arranging may operate freely without any interference.Q-2Explain the advantages and disadvantages of Partnership?Ans.The main advantages and disadvantages can be explained as a) Advantages of PartnershipPartnership is preferred to other forms of business delinquent to the following advantageous points.1.Ease of OrganizationPartnership can be organized without any legal formalities. There is no license salary, registration fee, registration fee for the formation of this type of organization. No formal documents are required to be submitted to the Registrars Office. ii or more persons may start this type of business at any time. But the formation of the colligation Stock Company is needed long complicated process.2.Sufficient CapitalIn the so le proprietary the capital remains limited but this problem does not arise in the partnership loyal due to number of partners i.e. 20 in ordinary business and 10 banking business. As such partner contributes his share in the business so capital volume can be sufficiently change magnitude for business activities.3.Borrowing FacilitiesThe partnership firm is considered safe organization for providing credit facilities due to unlimited liability of partners. thus sufficient funds in terms of credit can be procured from financial institutions or other sources in time of need.4.Simplicity in DissolutionThere are no complicated legal requirements for the dissolution of the partnership firm. Partners may dissolve their business very easily at any time. Analysis of a Play Essay

In Edward Bok Lees El Santo Americano, a professional grapple kidnaps his married woman and child as he drives to Mexico, hoping to reinvent himself and keep his family together. trunk is a disgraced professional wrestler who drives his wife and male child with him to Mexico. There, he hopes to reinvent himself as a wrestler, and not be taken as a joke. He also hopes to improve his failing relationship with his family. It is revealed shortly into the defraud that Clay has in fact taken his wife and son by force, when Evalana tells him to stop so she can take a bathroom break, and Clay says if I stop, youll try to run again. He also has brought a gaseous state with him. As the story progresses, Clay pulls over, giving Evalana the opportunity to run away, to which she promises she wont. Clay then gives a broad monologue revealing his wrestling life, including when he had finally won a match and the audience actually cheered him on, appreciating a real match as opposed to so much phoney bullshit (they had visualisen) with the years.More importantly, during the monologue, Clay reveals that he had won to give his wife and son something to believe in, and so his son could for once not see his daddy get beat time and again. During the long monologue, Evalana temporarily runs off, and Clay aims the gun at himself, eventually just putting it into his mouth. Evalana eventually reappears, and gives a monologue of her own. She tells of a family go she went on to Disneyland when she was about their son Jesses age.Along the way, her father woke the family up in Arizona, so they could see a big dam at night. It was during that time that she was fascinated by a rainbow she saw at night. The next night, while the family was camping out, Evalana saw a distant town that enchanted her, shining with minute stars that werent really stars, surrounded by rainbows that werent really rainbows. She reveals that she imagined she was born in that town, and that was the place t he family was mind to instead of Disneyland.Following Evalanas monologue, it is revealed that Jesse has driven off without them. Clay and Evalana look at each other, the gun still in Clays mouth, and Evalana proceeds to remove the gun from his mouth, and aims it at him. Overall, this was a made play which had conflicts between the examples, and ended in a twist in which their son abandons them in the desert. The play reveals the tragedy of a man who wants to prove himself to his family, and his own son abandons him and leaves both him and his wife stranded in the end.I liked the story and the tensions in this play, as well as the ending I did not expect coming. However, I did not like the long monologues told by both Clay and Evalana, which I launch hard to follow. In addition, the fact that no sentences began with capital letters made the play hard to read. I feel like the play could have improved if it did not have such long monologues, and shorter bits of character dialogue w ith each other.

Executive summary This report was aimed at analyzing current issues in the organizational environs of KDC and providing recommendation for the fol unkept to improve its performance regarding environment. The analysis focuses on the external environment of KDC. Over every(prenominal), KDC has a rather favorable external environment to a certain extent to make out the most of it. However, for each angiotensin-converting enzyme of the factors in its external environment fix sfountainhead and bad effects on its outcome, realizing and understanding all of which can help the corporation to exploit the most from the environment and avoid mis weighs reducing its achievements.External environment is dual-lane into general and specific factors. In the general environment, frugals is enduring massive fluctuations, devising guests cut d acceptwards expenditure and turn to economically efficient products. The political condition in Vietnam is stable, appropriating for applying in a pi ne condemnation. Whereas, the life styles of people ar under a considerable change, they adopt time- saving meals, which is an opportunity for blinking foods of KDC. Nevertheless, the instant foods are in like manner proved non to be so good for health. Finally, beside a authorisation domesticated merchandise, which possesses an ideal population structure, as Vietnam joined in WTO, it comes a chance of extending KDCs market into the manhood. In the specific environment, because of the significant drop in peoples income comparing to real harbor of commodity, the purchasing power of customers decreases. The widespread of fake and minor select goods turns out to be an opportunity for KDC as people trust in established organizations.Regard the potentiality of candy store industry culture in Vietnam, it is smooth to understand the vast number of KDCs rivalries in the market, and despite the give reference of KDC, the opposites gestate their own considerably outstanding s trengths. KDC has a wide variety of suppliers both from domestic and abroad, which bring not precisely benefits but besides disadvantages due to the differences in price and the distance to deliver. Finally, mash groups continuously react in aspect of wrongdoings. With a view to solve the problems and exploit the market, KDC should cut worst the price, diversify the products, build festering and extend plans. They likewise should consider more than about the responsiveness to the consumers and society I. Introduction KD is a orotund corporation which is the combination of many subsidiaries and each of which has the specialized production. However, when it comes to the brand name of KDC, people often fel humble it with the confectionary production, which is under implement of Kinh Do Bakery.Established in 1993, after 19 historic period of development, this company has sprain the leading one in the food industry. KDC is considered to be one of the healthfulhead-k forthwi thn joint- armoury company which is not tho dominating in the market of Vietnam but likewise expanding to the international scope. In the late(a) years, though the economic recession has put a lot of printing press on the well-being of many companies, KDC still has the good performance and even off make the incredibly high profit in the stock market of Vietnam. The annual report of KDC reveals that in 2011, the tax revenue increased by 32% and on average every SBU achieved the ontogenesis level of 2 digits. As food processing is the main production activities and besides the base for the development of the whole group, the annual turn everyplace from this section strikingly accounts for nearly 90% of the descend revenue for the corporation. The customer that KDC targets at is the Vietnamese one especially children because normally, the confectionary good is more preferred by this group than the adults. Therefore, what the company is producing and providing to the market is o f various kinds including candies, cakes, soft drinks, ice cream and other product made from milk. In addition, they have the desire for bringing their products to the world market to consolidate their position and get more profit. No effect what strategic goal that KDC aims at, they al demeanors consistently follow the mission of the company which providing customers with the safe, delicious and nutritious products and arduous to regard the changing their needs to fulfill the dream of making life better day by day.By that substance, KDC can maintain its vast-established reputation in the food industry as well as sustainable and non-stop development in the future. II. External environment analysis of KDC 1. General environment like any other organizations KDC is involveed by its general environment which includes economic, political , sociocultural, demographic, technological and world(a) conditions. 2. 1 Economic conditions Recently, Vietnams economy has been undergoing massi ve fluctuations which have affected almost companies including KDC.First of all, the years ranging from 2008 up until now, the issues of escalating inflation and high involvement rate have posed numerous threats to cablees (Tu 2011). It is undoubted that those components of the economy have changed haping behaviors of customers, who may cut down their expenditures on luxuries as well as become more critical about what to buy and how such(prenominal) to buy. This may be a real challenge for KDC since the corporation is well cognise for high quality and costly products. 2. 2 Political/ legal conditionsThere is no doubt that political and legal situation of each nation always exerts profound effects on its business performance. In terms of politics, it is widely real that political environment in Vietnam is relatively stable, which gives KDC an opportunity to apply its development policies in a long-acting time condition without having to follow various political institutions . Concerning legal aspect, Vietnam Government volunteers and enforces Business Law by which an organization operates. For instance, in May1st, 2012 the Tuotre. vn account that Vietnam Government passed by dint of the Law which required higher minimum salary.Consequently, KDC had to spend more on salary for its employees. Hence, legal environment in Vietnam not only brings about advantages to a confectionary producing firm like KD but as well creates barriers to the expansion and development of the corporation. 2. 3 Sociocultural conditions In recent years, Vietnams society and cultures have been experiencing considerable changes, which brings about the change in consumers life styles. single of which is adopting time saving meals instead of traditional ones, which is beneficial for instant foods industry- the major of KDC.This can be regarded as a monolithic opportunity for all the businesses which manufacture instant food like KDC. Mean plot of land, there is also some othe r dominant trend in todays society which to some extent may affect KDC. That is the shift in the Vietnamese perception in the importance of health in their lives. Thus, it is trendy now that more and more people put much emphasis on food hygene and safety when making choices of food. It means that they are tending to consume the products which are rooted in long-established and well-known brands. This is undeniably an unequivocal advantage to KDC which is by far top-of-mind company in Vietnam food industry. However, it is also posing challenges for KDC considering the confectionary sector. It is universally known that the products such as candies, cream cakes and so on are among the major causes of obesism, which may lead to cardiovascular diseases and other well(p) problems (Bang 2011). As a result, people in fresh culture with educational improvements have been gradually changing their tastes to adjust to products which contain low fat and cholesterol intake. This would be a big issue for KDC which operates in the field of manufacturing products with high volume of lettuce, milk and butter. This is a big challenge for KDC to inaugurate the ingredients in its products to meet these new requirements from its customers. 2. 4 Demographic conditions As reported in the CIA World Factbook in 2011, Vietnam has an ideal population structure, consisting of more than 90% of youth and mature people within working age. This has contributed to creating a vibrant and potential market for KDC in private and food industry in general. Moreover, this striking regulation in age structure of the country also brings about a significant benefit for KDC, which does business in food manufacturing sector with high consider for labors. 2. 5 Technological conditions It is obvious that technology is a very active element filled with numerous opportunities and threats to enterprises. First of all, as widely accepted, the introduction of modern technology helps simplify a variety of c omplicated and time-consuming manufacturing processes, contributing to optimizing efficiency and improving net income for many firms. However, in Vietnam, it seems to be an immense challenge since there is a shortage of qualified staffs to meet the new requirements of knowledge economy such in-depth understanding of advancements in science and technology. In addition, our country also ranks behind many other countries in the world in the field of technological applications as well as transferring. check to the Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) published in recent years concerning technology indicators, the order of our country is 92 out of 117 hile that of Thailand is 43. Hence, it can be concluded that this would an immense challenge for KDC to cope with technological issues today prone the explosion of newly emerging technologies, which has and has been making existing ones become quickly obsolete and need innovating much more frequently than ever. 2. 6 Global conditions As reported in the VTC news, Vietnam has officially become a member of the World Trade Organization-WTO. This has marked an important turn of events point in the countrys development in all aspects. In terms of economy, joining the WTO has given domestic enterprises an opportunity to integrate into the global economy, expanding their scope of market. Nevertheless, it may also pose threats to many firms as it would attract more and more foreign investment into the country, creating harsh competition in domestic economy. KDC may also be put under this threat unless it could reinforce its outstanding position in customers mind. In addition, the opening of the countrys economy to the global one also means that our economy lead be influenced by fluctuations in other economies. In recent years, the whole world has been suffering a long period of economic downturn, which has resulted in a dramatic decrease in purchasing power even in developed countries. Thus, not only KDC but also numero us enterprises all over the world would have to address this problem to gain an outstanding position in the gloomy picture of global economy. 2. Specific environment 3. 7 Customer According to Stephen P. Robbins and Mary Coulter, the specific environment is the external factors flat affecting managers decisions and actions and is of the most relevant components to the achievement of the organizations goals (Robbins2009, p. 8). As specific environment is unequaled to each organization, it is worth analyzing the specific environment of KDC to find out its opportunities and threats. Customers seem to be first mentioned as an organizations existence is for their demands. Consequently, this is the objective that organizations have to satisfy initially. Naturally, customers always want to buy goods at the lowest price and highest quality, which pushes organizations to race in the field of price and products quality mechanical press. It is sooner challenging in the case of price pressure as the price of inputs is increasing faster over time whereas the income and purchasing power of consumers are limited. According to the Vietnam economic forum, in 2009, GDP of Vietnam decreased by 51 years in comparison with Indonesia, 95 years with Thailand and 158 years in comparison with capital of Singapore (Le Khac 2012). In the article titled Moi lo lon gia ca tang cao thu nhap tang cham (2007), the author also mentioned about the alarmingly increasing trend of necessary goods including food, which had strong negative impacts on the living standard of people with low income.Despite the increase of production cost, organizations still have to maintain their quality of goods because without it, consumers will reduce their purchase. Especially in the context of fake goods and low quality goods widely spread in the market, the challenge that KDC has to face is not easy. The article sua kem chat luong, banh keo qua dat tran lan (2005) reveals that market control forces discoveri ng successively increasingly cases of producing and delivering fake and low quality goods, included products faking KDCs, which absolutely negatively affects the prestige of the company. However, the number of consumers trusting in KDC and buying its products always ranks first in comparison with other domestic confectionery companies, showing the advantage of it over the rivals, the total revenue of 4 other hulkingst companies in term of confectionery which are Hai Ha, Huu Nghi, Biscafun and QNS is only equal to 73% of KDCs (2012). One more problem that the company itself realized is that the bird flu, which affects the quality and price of eggs_ the major ingredients in making KDCs products, raised the cost of production and reduced the sale of the products (2012). . 8 Competitors Although KDC is the largest confectionery company in Vietnam, it does not mean that it can eternally maintain the current position without caring about other less successful companies and other kinds of competitors. The main current rivalries of KDC are Hai Ha, Huu Nghi, Biscafun and QNS. While KDC rivet on the high and medium grade products, others tend to pursue producing the common grade products. And whereas KDC is the leader in the market share of moon cake, AFC and sweet biscuit, those 4 companies also ave their strong positions in other products BBC lead in candy market, HHC lead in chew and Jelly market, Huu Nghi well-known for Tet jam and industrial zesty bread, which also bring them enceinte profit and still tremendously potential to exploit (2012), from the research, we realize that although the way KDC is following is highly profitable and still grow fast, it may be rather risky when the income of consumers is low and they cannot afford its products in the future, in that case, they can turn to other brands. It also exists the case of consumers changing their tastes, and demand more the products that KDC does not focus to, which can reduce sharply its sale revenue. A dditionally, the confectionery industry is one of the most potential industries in Vietnam ( from 2008 to 2012 the production of confectionery increases by 114. 7% per year despite the effect(2007), so the chance of new entrants coming to it and take parts of KDC market share is of high likelihood 3. 9 SuppliersRegardless of however potential the market is, without suppliers, a company cannot perform anything. Suppliers, defined as who provide not only hooeys and equipment but also financial and labor resource, play a crucial role on the well-being of companies. In the case of KDC, the suppliers of raw materials are determined by its vision and mission. As the quality of products is what factory puts the most emphasis on, KDC has a tendency to coordinating with the partners of high prestige planning high quality and clearly-rooted materials. The main inputs such as sugar, eggs, flour, admixtures are taken from the domestic market while milk powder and chocolate are from the global one, particularly, France, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. It can be acknowledged as an opportunity of KDC because the materials in the internal market are always available and it just has to deal with miserable carrying cost. Whereas, the wider spread of supplier network over the world market enables KDC to be flexible in ensuring the inputs for production.Along with the opportunities, suppliers also pose a lot of threats to the company in different ways, the first of which is through prices. As proclaimed in the annual report of KDC in 2011, due to the inflation, the firm suffers from dramatically increasing and unstable prices of material together with the rises in salary and utilities expense, which leads to a significant drop in total revenue of KDC. Moreover, as KDC imports some materials from the external market, they are the price takers. Therefore, they will encounter some problems because of the fluctuations in the world prices.Back to the domestic market, the chan ging prices of inputs, especially sugar is really a pending issue. Not only KDC but also many confectionery producing corporations also get exhausted with the discrepancy between the sugar price at the beginning and the end of the harvest. While the price of confectionery does not change by 10 % per year, the sugar price fluctuates by nearly 30% (Hung, cited in thesaigontimes. vn, 2012) What is more, company effectiveness of performance is reduced importantly by come forth chain disruption especially in global sourcing.Rob Handfield (2011, p3) points out that the delay in supplying can cut down shareholder value by as much as 10% or even worse in time-sensitive environments where early market introduction is critical to success. KDC also gets part of its inputs from the external market through shipping so it is impossible to avoid the risk of supply chain disruption, which means a great deal of time and money wasted. 3. 10 Pressure groups. One more factor that a firm often has to b ear in mind derives from pressure groups, which are the ones attempting to influence the actions of organization.Every organization has its own pressure groups and as for KDC, the 2 groups that have the role in adjust KDCs performances are Environmental Protection Group and Customer Right Protection Group. The EPG takes investigation of the treatment to wastes from production activities of KDC to determine whether it does harm to environment or not. If there is any problem, they will reflect it through the medium to force the company to correct it or make some compensation. The CRPG monitors the action of KDC from the step of victorious inputs to processing and packaging to ensure it is safe to the health of customers. As the social attitudes change so does the power of pressure groups. In 2008, KDC had been blamed for using milk powder that contains melamine- one toxic substance- to produce cakes. Under the pressure of media, KDC had to carry out a careful test to make sure that the production was absolutely reliable. ( Thao, cited in baomoi. com,2008) III. Recommendations In term of specific environment, as confectionery demand is rather elastic due to its gigantic number of close substitutes, the lower the price is, the higher the demand is, especially in these dark old age of the economy.Hence, it is obvious that KDC should take a set of actions in terms of price to motivate consumers to purchase more such as reducing the price of products, or giving promotions when they buy a certain large amount. Such programs will not only raise the companys revenue but also make its reputation much more well-known. The marketing work also should be taken into thoughtfulness since the current advertising campaign of KDC is not of high effectiveness. Thus to make the quality of its products known and then highly regarded by people, it should promote advertising and marketing strategy. As regard competition, to be more competitive to outgo exploit the market, it is thought that KDC should research and build development plans, diversifying its products and expanding to other markets, this will both helps KDC to avoid the case of lower revenue due to the change of consumers taste and bring about enormously larger revenue if successful. For the suppliers, the careful analysis over opportunities and threats that supplier chains bring about gives the implications for the company to direct its actions. As for KDC, to minimize the negative impacts of suppliers, it has to face 2 ill-minded questions. The first one is how to reduce the purchasing prices of inputs. To enjoy the inexpensive sourcing, it is advised that KDC should make a periodical purchase with extreme amount of materials. By that way, KDC is benefit from the great negotiation power over its partners about the prices. Another question is how to manage the risks from tardy delivery progress. According to Handfield, the most critical action is to develop the supplies chain strategies t o detect the problems, assess the negative impacts and also palliate them.In the case of KDC, they should sign the strict contracts with its partners, forcing them to adhere to the contracts to ensure about the delivery progress. Moreover, it is better for KDC to make plans of frequently checking the materials left to be active in ensuring the inputs for manufacturing. Besides suppliers, KDC should pay attention to the pressure groups. The only way to get out of the impacts of them is doing things right. In particular, KDC is encouraged to give priority to the customer rights by providing the safe goods to consumers with trance prices. Moreover, it is necessary to develop a business plan of manufacturing parallel with protecting environment. It is the way KDC performs its social responsibility. twist to external forces in the general environment, there is no denying that KDC should take these components into thorough consideration. Concerning opportunities, the firm should underst and and take advantage of them to reinforce its competitive advantage over other competitors. For instance, in terms of demography, Vietnam seems to be a dynamic and potential market for confectionary products. Therefore, KDC should seek the ways to expand their scope of production as well as diversifying their items to meet new requirements from different customers. Turning to the issues that are generated by the general environment, the firm should stand by alert and pay more attention to them if it does not want to be put under serious losses. Specifically, it is obvious that KDC should take into account the fluctuations in the open market as well as changes in the Government rules and regulations to respond quickly and make appropriate adjustments for its strategic management.IV. Conclusion To sum up, it is concluded with no doubt that KDC is doing an extremely good business, which brings about a strikingly high economic profit and also gets the KDs brand name familiar with the customers in the domestic market as well as the global one. To attain this achievement, beside some internal factors of the company such as the good manager, skillful employees or great capital, the external environment of KDC also makes a significant contribution. The general factor, which include economic, demographic, technological, social, cultural, political/legal, global, though do not have the direct impacts on the performance of KDC, they still serve as the frame to set the standard for all business activities. On the contrary, KDC is influenced by four specific elements namely customers, suppliers, competitors and pressure groups. They act as the determinants of the success or failure of KDC. Hence, it is required for KDC to carefully understand the opportunities as well as threats that these factors pose on the company to have the right direction for development in the future.REFERENCE Danh sach nha cung c? p nguyen li? u cho Kinh Do. 2011 online open at universal resourc e locator . http//www. tuhaoviet. vn/index. php/tin-tuc/tieu-diem/199-dac-diem-cua-nganh-banh-keo-viet-nam.
